Full Cheek

About Full Cheeks
The Full Cheek, as its name suggests has cheeks that extend both above and below the mouthpiece.
With a direct line of contact from the rider’s hand, through the reins to the bit with no leverage, pulley or curb action, this is a member of the Snaffle family of bitting. Acting on the lips, tongue and bars of the mouth it is available in a wide range of mouthpieces. Its general action will be one to encourage the head upwards. The long cheeks above and below the mouthpiece help to prevent the bit from sliding through the mouth. Additionally, they act to provide directional guidance against the face and so support the rein aid. This is often useful for less experienced horses. The eggbutt sides act to help prevent any pinching.
